Characterization:
- A, 17-18; D, 5; V, 5; P, 10.
- Karyotype; 2n = 48, NF = 68, 70.
- Only one species of the genus Oryzias distributed in the Temperate Zone. Well studied species in the genus Oryzias. Many wild populations, mutation strains and inbred strains are maintained in several laboratories in Japan. An orange-red variety is commercially available.
